Acne blue light therapy involves treating the affected area with safe wavelengths of UV light targeting and killing acne bacteria and healing the skin.. Clearlight therapy is available through dermatologists but is expensive. Recently though, with the advance in LED technology, reasonably priced blue light therapy lamps and blue light therapy bulbs are available for home use.
How does Acne Blue Light Therapy work?
The ultraviolet spectrum of sunlight has been known for sometime to improve acne conditions due to antibacterial and other effects but unfortunately cannot be used long term because of the damaging effect on the skin. Studies have since found that some of the visible violet light present in sunlight (in the range 405-420 nm) targets to kill propionibacterium acnes or the bacteria associated with acne. Use of acne blue light therapy with a light therapy lamp for 3 consecutive days has been shown to reduce bacteria in the pores by up to 99.9% with up to 80% of patients showing overall improvement over 3 months (note it no improvement was found in 10% of patients).
Research has been proven by the July 2000 doctors at Hammersmith Hospital in London (UK) used blue and red light therapy produced by a lightbox on patients with mild to moderate acne for 15 minutes a day over a 12 week period. The results showed that on average there was a 76% decrease in the number of spots visible in the area treated on these patients. The trial was led by Doctor Tony Chu who claims that the combination of the red and blue light therapy attacks the bateria contributing to the acne and promotes healing.
Doctor Sadwick wrote that lthough the exact mode of action was still unclear, it was believed that phototherapy destroyed propionibacterium acnes, the slow-growing bacteria linked to acne. Patients in his study used Omnilux Clear-U blue- and red-light therapies. Eight weeks after a month-long treatment course, Sadick said, acne lesions were reduced by 69 per cent.
Acne blue light therapy lamps and light therapy lamp bulbs.
The FDA approved acne blue light therapy use with a light therapy lamp in August 2002.

Got acne? Then it’s time you try an ANSR that works! Photo Therapy (also known as IPL, Light Therapy or Blue Light treatment) has been used for the past decade by dermatologists as a safe and effective treatment for acne. Now ANSR has harnessed this incredible technology into safe, compact device for home use. ANSR is a simple, three-step program. Step #1 ANSR: PREP prepares the skin for recovery and exfoliates dead skin cells. The cleaner the skin, the deeper the ANSR: BEAM will penetrate to accomplish its restorative work. Step #2: The ANSR: BEAM is a handheld, rechargeable device that emits narrow-focused blue and red light waves that penetrate deep within the skin. International research studies have demonstrated that acne bacteria molecules absorb blue light waves, causing their destruction. Red light waves have been shown to reach deeper into the skin’s dermis layer to help fade the redness, scars and pockmarks. Step #3: ANSR: DAY and ANSR: NIGHT work to treat existing blemishes with AURAZIN (a proprietary blend of minerals and botanicals) that help skin oils pass freely onto the surface of the skin.
