Acne Light Therapy Archives

Acne Light Therapy LampsHave you been searching for home remedy for acne and had difficulty finding a natural acne solution and not just an old acne myth?  In that case could an acne light therapy lamp be your home remedy for acne?  Let’s look at some of the benefits and reasons why acne lamps could provide the best acne solution:

Have you noticed when there is a prolonged period of sunshine that your acne condition seems to improve.  The reason for that is that UV light levels in sunlight causes a reaction that kills the acne  bacteria.  The only problem being is that we all know that too much unprotected sunlight cause serious damage to our skin.  But, extensive research has proved that light levels within a small defined range is harmless to our skin and provides the UV rays that are necessary to kill the acne bacteria.  This type of light therapy has been available for over 20 years in dermatology clinics and was quite expensive.  In recent years though, due to the rapid advance in LED technology, acne light therapy lamps have been produced that are relatively inexpensive and suitable for use as a home remedy for acne.  There are a variety of lamps available that range from pocket handheld acne lamps to table top acne lamps.

The benefit of these lamps is that they can be used at home and even on the move.  There is not a more natural acne solution as no creams, chemicals or antibiotics are needed.

Acne Light Therapy Lamps

There are two types of lamps, blue light therapy or red light therapy, or a combined blue/red light therapy.  The blue light operates in the UV range that kills the acne bacteria and the red light operates in a slightly higher UV range that triggers an healing process of the skin to heal and remove acne scarring.  The red light is used after blue light therapy has killed the acne bacteria to heal scars left by acne.  It also has the added advantage of an anti-aging effect and removes fine lines and wrinkles.

So an acne light therapy lamp really could be your home remedy for acne and at the same time helping you keep your youthful look.  By using light therapy and drinking plenty of water you could clear that acne and get the beautiful skin you have dreamed of.

If you have an acne and are looking for an over the counter acne solution that can be used daily home then blue light therapy Acne Lamps is probably one of the options you have looked at.

Do blue light therapy acne lamps work?

Research seems to say it does. In 2000 independent research by the Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine at Hammersmith Hospital in London determined that 15 minutes  a day of light therapy provided an effective method to cure mild to moderate acne.  In October of 2002 the American Academy of Dermatology published that “Light gets at the core of what causes acne eruptions: P. acnes, the bacterial responsible for causing acne inflammation, pumps out tiny molecules called porphyrins. When those porphyrin are exposed to certain wavelengths of light, they produce free radicals that kill the bacteria. Without P. acnes around to cause inflammation, acne clears up.”  Also the FDA has approved light therapy for use on mild to moderate acne. Blue light has been used in dermatology clinics for over 20 years to treat acne, but used to be expensive to have these session.  Led technology has brought the cost and size of these lamps down significantly making them affordable for general home acne treatment.

Are Blue Light Therapy Acne Lamps Safe?

Yes light therapy is safe, both blue light and red light therapy.  Whilst UV light is normally regarded as damaging to the skin, these type of therapy lamps operate in the safe UV spectrum of between 415nm and 660nm.  Whilst being harmless to the skin UV light in these ranges still have the beneficial effects of killing acne bacteria with the blue light at 415nm UV range and removing scars, fine lines and wrinkles with red light in the 660nm UV range.

How Do Blue Light Therapy Acne Lamps Work?

The lamps emit blue light in the 415nm UV spectrum.  UV light within this range is harmless to the skin but has been proved to target and kill the P.acnes bacteria that causes acne inflammation.  With no bacteria to cause inflammation the acne clears and it also helps to cure existing blemishes and prevent further outbreaks.  Combined blue and red light provides the benefit of not only curing the acne but also removing marks, blemishes and acne scarring.

What should I look for when purchasing a Blue Light Therapy Acne Lamp?

It depends on how you want to use it.  There are hand-held acne lamps and table top and anglepoise type stand lamps.  If you want it to be portable then on of the hand battery powered devices would suit best.  If you just intend on using at your home then your can choose to have either a mains powered device or hand-held device.

If you just have mild to moderate acne and no marks or scarring then a blue light lamp is suitable.  If there are marks and scarring you want to reduce or remove then either a combined blue/red device or a blue lamp and a red lamp would be needed.

What do users have to say about the Baby Quasar Blue Light Therapy Lamp:

5.0 out of 5 stars I was a skeptic, now I am a convert

I was highly skeptical of this product when I purchased it but I was so tired of having acne in my 30s despite trying everything (topical prescription creams, facials, dermatologist visits, expensive fancy creams) and spending LOTS of money in the process so I broke down and got this. I purchased this product and have used it for a week (4 times this week) on my problem areas and my acne is completely resolved. Sure, I have the spots left where blemishes used to be but the blemishes themselves are gone……

Conclusion on the Baby Quasar Blue Light Therapy Lamp.  This lamp is a quality product that should stand the test of time, it good to look at and nice to handle.  The price is at the top of the range for acne lamps but the quality components used to manufacture it justify the cost, it is not a device that has been put together with cheap components that can be sourced anywhere.   It has 24 violet/blue 3mm leds, not as many as some of the other lamps on the market but as it can be directed directly to the area needing attention it makes up for the lesser quantity of leds.
