How to Get Rid of Acne Scars
For many people acne isn’t just a problem that’s confined to their teenage years. If you had severe acne in the past then chances are you’ll have some scarring on your face and back which can serve as a constant reminder of the problem. Luckily there are now plenty of treatments available for acne scars to allow you to finally become acne free. In this article we’ll be going through a few of the most common types of professional acne scar treatments.
Laser treatment - This is probably the most expensive option but also the most effective. The basic idea is that a laser is used to break down the skin that’s causing the scar to be visible. However, treatments can run into the thousands of dollars and you may require more than one to get rid of your scars.
Dermabrasion - This technique is around half the price of laser treatment although again you may need more than one session. Dermabrasion works best on very shallow scars so may not be suitable for “ice pick” scars. The basic idea is that a rough material is used to get rid of the damaged skin which then allows new skin to grow in its place. Dermabrasion is generally only effective on people with either dark or very light skin.
Chemical peels - These aren’t as effective as the previous two techniques but are great for mild scarring because they are relatively cheap. The procedure is also usually quick and straightforward. Chemical peels work by applying certain types of acid to the skin to get rid of the damaged layer.
